What are tablet PC's
A tablet PC, in short also a tablet or tablets, is a handheld computer. To get a picture of it you can see it as a large and powerfull iPhone or PDA, but also as a small laptop. The idea of a tablet PC first came alive 60's, but it got a real shape once Microsoft launced a tablet-like computer. The first tablet PC dates from the early 90's, but the market wasn't ready for it at the time. A tablet PC has various sizes, and measures about 21x27x2 cm, weighs between 1 and 1,5 kg, and has a large power range due to it's batteries.
Tablet controlsMany tablets or Tablet PC's are controlled with a special pen, the
stylus. With the stylus the user indicates on the screen itsself what he or she wants to see or write. This way of controlling the devices has a tablet PC in common with it's little brother, the PDA. Due to the introduction of the iPhone and the iPad tablets have touch screens as well nowadays. In that case a stylus is no longer needed, the user can use his fingers to touch the screen for what has to ben shown or done.
The biggest difference with a laptop is (mostly) the lack of an actual keyboard. The iPhone and iPad for example, have integrated their keyboard in the screen. If we look at the puprose of use it can be said that a tablet pc is almost equal to a personal computer or laptop. A falgrant difference is that a PC or laptop is percieved as a working station, an iPad or tablet as an article of use to read, to show something, or to install and use small applications. Tablet pc's can contact the internet via Wi-Fi and/or a LAN connection to a local computer network.
